Winter in the UP offers an unlimited variety of outdoor entertainment.  In addition to apline skiing at Big Powderhorn Mt. you can choose from two other nearby ski areas, or several groomed Nordic cross-country ski trails.  Big Powderhorn has 28 downhill trails and three distinct terrain parks - one for each ability level.   

Some of the best snowmobile trails in the country make snowmobiling a popular activity as well.  Opportunities for snow shoeing, dog sledding, ice skating, sleigh rides and even ice fishing are just outside your door.

Typically, the Lake Superior shoreline receives over 200" of annual snowfall.

In the spring the waterfalls are at their grandest, fed with the runoff from 200 inches of snow.  Pickup a brochure of all the waterfalls in the area and their ratings at Big Powderhorn Lodging's front desk.

Lake Gogebic is only about a 30 minute drive away.  It is the largest inland lake in the Upper Peninsula with a great walleye fishery.  You can also go to one of the many parks along the lake to have a day of swimming and picnicking.

For a nice change of pace take a drive out to Lake Superior and see Little Girls Point or go to the Black River Harbor.
